EVERY GREAT HERO HAS A BEGINNING… Some of those beginnings are even great
Looking out over the vast parade of comic book characters, a few superhero origins stand out to me. For SPIDERMAN there was the “BITE!” For BATMAN there was the tragic death of his parents and Superman, well the destruction of Krypton and his journey to Earth….
Some origins are BIG and some are small. Never-the-less, a hero’s ORIGIN is next to sacred in the unwritten rules of Comicdome. But I’ve noticed this key element of hero creation has slowly slipped away from the multitude of current characters. It has become almost a lost art. Now-a-days heroes seem to be simply born out of some random act of violence or just simply because they have the means and choose to become a vigilante. Or worst yet, the writer HIDES the origin thinking it’s somehow the thing the reader wants to know last! These low energy origins, or worse -NO origins, miss out on key opportunities for solidifying the mythos of those characters!
